vivax was 88.0% (95% confidence interval (CI): 83.6% – 90.3%). For parasite densities > 500/mu l, a sensitivity of 97.2% ( CI: 92.6% – 99.1%) was obtained. Specificity was 98.5%, with 4 out of 75 P. falciparum samples testing positive. None of the P. ovale samples tested positive. Nearly two-thirds (57/88, 64.7%) of positive P. vivax samples showed faint or weak line intensities, with stronger line intensities at higher parasite densities. The test showed excellent reproducibility and reliability CB-839 for test

results and line intensities (kappa values exceeding 0.98 and 0.87 respectively).

Conclusion: The FK70 test performed well in diagnosing P. vivax infections in a non-endemic reference setting. It can be of added value to microscopy in species differentiation PRN1371 of malaria infections, especially at parasite densities > 500/mu l.”
“The insecticidal properties of Hoslundia opposita Vahl (Lamiaceae) leaves’ essential oil (EO) against Tribolium castaneum were investigated using contact toxicity and repellency bioassays. Mortality progressed with exposure period and ranged from 61.13% observed at 24h after treatment (HAT) to 88.86% at 168 HAT. The LT50 (lethal time for 50% of treated adults) of H. opposita EO against T. castaneum was 10.42h. Application of EO at 20-30 mu L/30cm(2) caused significantly

(P<0.05) higher percentage repellency than what was observed in control, 10 and 15 mu L/30cm(2) at 1 and 3 HAT, with significant repellency at 24 HAT regardless of dosage. Repellency class increased with EO dosage, with class V observed at 30 mu L/30cm(2), regardless of exposure duration. The RD50 (repellency dose 3-MA inhibitor for 50% of treated adults) of 15.88 and 13.37 mu L/30cm(2) for 1 and 2 HAT, respectively, was significantly higher than 0.09 mu L/30cm(2) at 24 HAT.”
“Four new models of Uni-HEUR associative thickener were designed and synthesized using various molecular weights of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) as hydrophilic segments. The PEG chain ends were capped

with octadecyl isocyanate as hydrophobic segments. The structure of the prepared Uni-HEUR thickness was confirmed by infrared spectroscopy. The steady shear viscosity measurements of aqueous solution of HEUR models showed that the size of hydrophilic segments to hydrophobic segments is very important. Oscillatory measurements confirmed the steady shear viscosity results. It is found, there is an optimum relative size of hydrophilic segments to hydrophobic segments to achieve the thickener with a good performance. (C) 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. “There is a concern on the risk of thyroid cancer associated with glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) analogs including liraglutide and exenatide. In this article, we review related experimental studies, clinical trials and observational human studies currently available.
